Devil in the Detail of the Dispatch Advice

The Dispatch advice (or known as Advanced Shipping Notification) is a very helpful message, which is used by many VAR’s and Etailers as a prompt to notify their customer of a drop shipment.

For the UK market Onetrail has recently added the courier identifier to get to the right level of detail within the message. Previously a company could see a consignment number (tracking ID) and have an educated guess on the courier; however Onetrail has developed the shipping identifier as part of the standard message. Normalizing the shipping identifier is also important so the Buyer only has to store 1 courier, stored under a single GLN code. For example if a courier is registered for 1 supplier there is no need to set up a new courier, or no risk that the same courier will be set up twice.

This allows the Buyer to now communicate the shipping identifier e.g. DHL and the consignment number. This is becoming increasingly more important as the demand for special deliveries like next day or international deliveries continues to grow, so does the demand for more specialist couriers to be available to access the information from.

The next step in the process is to take information directly back from the courier, in order to return the proof of delivery back to the Buyer. This does however involve understanding how many items have been delivered and in how many packages (if any) are being returned. Onetrail is in development with this project but have already seen success with one of Tech Data Europe’s key transporters.

This is a great example of Onetrail staying ahead of the game.
